When it comes to exotic summer destinations, Majorca is a classic and one of the most beautiful islands. Whether you’re looking for a luxurious beach getaway or some of the best nightlife in Europe, this Mediterranean paradise is full of surprises.
Majorca, located east of Spain, is one of the Balearic Islands. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, cliffs, and charming towns. Palma, the capital, is a lively city with great nightlife, delicious food, and quaint cobblestone streets that are perfect for shopping. However, the true beauty lies outside of Palma, where one can find beautiful small fishing villages, authentic food, and stunning beaches.
If you want to enjoy all that Majorca has to offer, then I have good news for you. With just a bit of planning, you can experience all the luxury that Mallorca has to offer. Our Guest Editors came up with a detailed guide so you will be well-prepared for your summer in Spain in 2023!
When is the best time to visit?
Summer is the best time to visit Majorca. For those looking for a beach vacation, April through October should be their go-to months. This will give them plenty of chances to soak up the sun and get some sand between their toes.
Just a heads up, May through September are the busiest months in Mallorca. This means you can expect more crowds in the towns, restaurants, and beaches. If you want a more peaceful vacation, consider visiting during the off-season in April or October. The weather is still warm, but it’s not as busy as high season.
Which are the best towns?
If you want to experience authentic island life, quiet beaches, and traditional food, be sure to explore the smaller towns in Majorca as well as the capital, Palma. While Palma may be the beating heart of the island, these little towns are definitely worth a visit.
Valldemossa
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle, Valldemossa is the perfect destination. Nestled in the Tramuntana Mountains, this charming town boasts stunning views, amazing trekking routes, and mouthwatering regional dishes. It has everything you could expect from a typical Mediterranean village, such as narrow cobblestone streets, colorful mosaics, and cozy bistros and coffee shops.
Deià
This little town is without doubt a favorite of many. Situated on the northwest coast of Majorca, Deià is a picturesque village with cobblestone streets and spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. There are plenty of secluded beaches nearby where one can enjoy peace and quiet. Furthermore, it is home to some of the best restaurants on the island. El Olivo is a fine dining restaurant offering amazing local dishes and has one of the most beautiful outdoor areas on the island.
Cala Figuera
This typical fishing village is located on the southeastern coast of Majorca. It’s a great place to spend a day, or better yet, a weekend. The port is full of charming boats and you can buy fresh fish straight from the fishermen! There are also plenty of excellent restaurants in town where you can sample some delicious local cuisine with stunning views out over the bay.
Our favorite beaches
Majorca has some of the most stunning beaches worldwide, providing both secluded areas and lively beach bars. Similar to the towns in Majorca, the further away from Palma you go, the more tranquil and private the beaches become. Ultimately, you must decide if you prefer a bustling party beach or a more tranquil atmosphere.
Cala Mondragó
Located in the southeastern part of the island, Cala Mondragó is a stunning beach area offering an amazing turquoise bay surrounded by fragrant pine trees and rocky cliffs. There are no high-rise hotels or villas; however, there are a few basic amenities available such as a beach bar or a parasol and hammock rental service.
Cala Torta
Cala Torta is a hidden gem tucked away in the north of Majorca. It’s a small cove with crystal-clear waters and white, sandy beaches surrounded by lush trees and rocky cliffs. This beach is an excellent spot for swimming, snorkeling, or simply lounging in the sun. Nature lovers will appreciate the tranquility as there are no shops or restaurants, so bring everything you need for the day.
Portitxol
Portixol, a former fishing port, is now a highly sought-after neighborhood in Palma. Its seafront of traditional fishermen’s houses is just a short drive away from the city center or a ten-minute walk along the Paseo Marítimo. The beach is ideal for a peaceful swim before enjoying dinner at one of the many restaurants along the strip.

What to do in Mallorca
Besides shopping and dining, one of the top activities to do in Palma de Mallorca is touring its renowned Gothic cathedral. This impressive building dates back to the 13th century and is acknowledged as one of the most exquisite examples of Gothic architecture in Europe. A walk inside unveils spacious areas, stained glass windows, and religious art pieces.
If you’re looking for things to do in Palma de Mallorca, consider visiting the Mercat de Santa Catalina (Santa Catalina Market). If you happen to be staying on a super yacht, the market is a great place for your chef to stock up on fresh supplies for meals.
When you’ve had enough of the hustle and bustle in Palma, go beach or town hopping. Majorca is full of charming towns, each with its own unique vibe and flavor. Some favorites for a day trip include Sóller, Deià, Valldemossa, and Puerto Pollensa. Of course, there are also plenty of hidden bays where you can swim and relax privately before returning to Palma at the end of the day.
